Chatsworth Road Market will be open every Sunday from 12 June from 11am to 4pm after the success of the trial markets.
Chatsworth Road Traders and Residents Association (CRTRA) are working with Hackney Council to bring the market back to its former glory.
The market is situated between Dunlace Road and Blurton Road in Lower Clapton, already has 30 stalls selling various items with cooked food, vintage clothing and home items, baby clothing and jewellery amongst them. A good percentage of locally-sourced goods and products can be found so residents can buy in-season fruit and vegetables or a unique piece of jewellery while supporting the local economy.
The market will continue to grow over the coming months with more stalls added to ensure local people and visitors alike make a visit to Chatsworth Road a regular part of their weekend.

We’re pushing hard for a weekly Sunday market at the next meeting with the council on Feb 28. LBH are expected to provide us with a cost breakdown and cover all other outstanding matters at this meeting to enable us to move forward
Good news everybody!

Things are starting to move forward since the Jan 19th public meeting discussing the future of the street and the market.
Hackney Council met representatives of the CRTRA on Feb 4th and here’s a quick summary of the key points:
- Adedoyin Awomosu, deputy head of markets and parking ran the meeting and LBH appear to be on the same page
- The manifesto was mentioned several times so there seems to be a genuine feeling that the market will go ahead
- We all agreed the market should reflect the diversity of the community and it was noted that we should agree a criteria for stalls with LBH (although as previously they will license etc)
- CRTRA and LBH both had 40 stalls in mind for the next market
- CRTRA have to submit the attached report to them by noon on Monday Feb 6
- Trial dates – they seemed amenable to running more trials while they consult so we have produced a timeline in the report as a guide
- Sunday market was not ruled out and LBH to provide costing breakdown of each
- Timing and stall layout to be discussed
LBH will come back to us to arrange a follow-up meeting for w/c 14 Feb. At this meeting we will discuss our report and theirs and reach agreement on a trial date to move forward. In the meantime they are meant to be getting costs together etc for the meeting w/c 14 Feb.

Here’a s preview of the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting to discuss the future of Chatsworth Road and in particular the market. Please let us know if there is anything that you would like to add.
- Welcome and introductions
- Background to market and CRTRA
- Feedback from visitors to the market
- Comments and questions from the floor on the trial markets and future plans
- Round-up of market discussion
- A view of the high street: a neighbourhood plan for Chatsworth Road
The neighbourhood plan is a proposal by local resident Euan Mills to create a plan with a long term vision of the future for Chatsworth Road. You can find out more here: Neighbourhood plan
We expect the meeting to finish around 9pm after which the bar will be open until 11 pm.
We recommend that you check out the Summary (p7) of our original Market Survey report on this website. This will provide you with the background to our original public consultation from which came the trial markets. We will also be providing information for volunteers and potential stallholders at the end of the meeting.
Looking forward to seeing you there

First of all we’d like to say a big thanks to everyone for supporting the three markets on Nov 7, Dec 5 and 12. With your help, we raised money, put on a market of 25 stalls, tried out three different layouts, had a film made about us and even featured in one of Lord Sugar’s tweets. And all of this on three incredibly sunny winter days.
Right now we’re processing all the questionnaires to see what you liked about the markets and what you’d like to see change. We’ve also got a discussion going on Facebook where you can let us know how we can improve the market. Please join in.
On January 19, at 7.30 pm, we’re also organising a community meeting to let you know the results of the survey and to discuss how to move forward. Aside from all the positive feedback, there are clearly some issues that people feel very strongly about and we need to discuss those and work out how to solve them in the future. We’ve received lots of different suggestions about how to bring the local community together around the market so please come along and be a part of the next step.
We’re hoping to keep the market going in the New Year but we need to wait for a final decision by Hackney Council before we can confirm this. Watch this space. And see you on Jan 19th.
The next market is going to be on December 5 and we’re going to make a few changes.
Firstly, we’re going to increase the number of stalls from 20 to 30.
Secondly, we’re trying a new layout with 30 stalls down one side of the street.
If you have any other suggestions about how we [...]
