Thousands attend Chatsworth Road Festival

Thousands of people have attended the second annual Chatsworth Road Festival, celebrating the area’s diverse community.
The one day event in the heart of East London started with a football match to raise money for the local Homerton Hospital and featured live bands, acrobatics, sumo wrestling, a dog show as well as street food stall and bars provided by Frockney Rebel and Beavertown Brewery.
Organisers say this year superseded expectations, with more guests than before and more businesses, community groups and residents involved than the previous year.
One of the organisers, Allan Parker, said:
“I was born and bred in Hackney and this festival very much represents everything I love about this community. The different generations and cultures, all coming together to create something positive, it makes me very proud to be from this area. I’m taken aback at how many people have turned up this year, the street is heaving. Just like it was in the 80’s when the festival first started.”

Chatsworth Road runs between Homerton and Lower Clapton in the east of the London Borough of Hackney. It is situated a short walk from Millfields Park, the River Lea and Hackney Marshes. Bucking the national trend, the high street is made up, primarily of independent shops and businesses and several new businesses have reopened in the last few years. The Sunday street market was reintroduced in 2011.
